Cave Crickets, also known as Camel Crickets, move inside your home when their environment becomes too hot and dry. They are usually found in areas that are cool and damp such as your basement, crawl spaces, garages or any area in your home where you may have a mold or damp moisture problem. These areas provide excellent nesting sites. Cave Crickets are typically active at night. They are wingless with large hind legs, which help them jump high and far. They have a single set of long antennae on their head, which helps guide them through the dark.

Cave Crickets can enter your home through gaps between the bottom of exterior entry doors and the floor, thru utility openings around pipes and wire entries, and thru cracks around windows, screens and vents. They breed in piles of damp wood or leaves lying around the exterior of your home. They do not tolerate dryness and heat and will move inside your home when the weather outside begins to get warmer.

These pests are annoying and can cause a lot of damage to fabric. They love to eat both synthetic and manmade material including rugs, furniture, books, canvas, clothing, boxes, linen, and drapery. The damage they cause looks like the damage that is done by moths. This cricket is also large and meaty. Rats and mice are fond of them. A Cave Cricket infestation, if not treated, can eventually lead to a rodent problem in your home!

If you think you have Cave Crickets, don’t wait to its population gets out of hand!
