TUNNELLED BY TERMITES?
Termites swarm in the Spring.
Termites have been around since the Jurassic period.
Termites eat NON_STOP – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Termites shed their wings when they are ready to reproduce and build a new colony.
Termite colonies can have millions of termites and spread across half an acre.
Termites cause $5 billion of damage annually. Insurance does not cover termite damage.
The total weight of all the termites in the world is more than the weight of all the humans in the world!
Subterranean Termites are the most destructive and can cause extensive damage to your home. They will destroy building foundations, wooden support beams, sub-flooring, and living trees and shrubs. Worker termites break wood down into cellulose and regurgitate to feed the rest of the colony. Swarming , flying termites are a sure sign that there is an infestation nearby. The “swarmers” emerge from their nest, then land to shed their wings and mate to begin new colonies. A mature colony will have a number of nesting and feeding sites that are all connected by mud tunnels or tubes in wood. These tunnels or mud tubes can be found in dark, damp, moisture areas of your home, and in your basement or garage. The appearance of rippling or sunken areas behind wallpaper or other wall coverings , interior sections of wood hollowed out along the grain, and dried mud or soil along these tunnels are true signs of a termite presence.
Because termites eat from the inside out, you, the homeowner, may not even know you have them until there is significant structural damage.
