CITRONELLA ANTS

Mansfield Citronella Ant Control

Also known as the Large Yellow Ant, this ant is named “citronella” because of the citronella-like lemon odor given off when the ant is crushed. These ants nest in soil. Workers are reddish-brown color and 1/5 inch long. Winged reproductive ants swarm in Early Spring around house foundations and in basements. The most common swarming occurs in Mid to Late Summer. They are frequently mistaken for termites because they can nest in old termite damaged wood. Outdoor nests are found in stumps, old logs, and under stones.

Outdoors or indoors, this ant brings large piles of dirt to the surface of the ground at the entrance of its nest, while digging their galleries underground. Inside nests are typically in areas of high moisture. If Citronella Ants invade your home, it is a true sign that there is a moisture problem inside your home. Their nests can cause a nuisance to you, the homeowner, and look ugly and intimidating to anyone who encounters the debris.
If you have a CITRONELLA ANT INFESTATION, a Pest Management Professional (PMP) is needed to locate and treat the areas where the nests are to eliminate your problem effectively and professionally.
